The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
