A man who spiked treats with sedative and provided them to children at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two boys who were nine and ten years old.

The defendant was arrested after eight children and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The elderly man, from that region, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the courthouse on Friday.

However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was held in detention prior to a further hearing on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, described the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.

Ruben engaged in a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had played this game with the young males "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.

"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor stated items including lubricant, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his stepson notified the police about his concerns.

She said Ruben went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she stated further.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the events.

The prosecutor explained the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member called the law enforcement once more.

She explained the defendant then engaged in the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
